crochet christmas

I did indeed finish this Christmas tree skirt in time for Christmas! There were some serious doubts that I could get this done in time for present-opening. And honestly, my hook flew like it has never flown before and I just amazed myself with finishing it.

The pattern if from Country Woman magazine, issue: Nov/Dec 2003. I'm not sure if this issue is still available.

And of course, the cats presume that it was entirely crafted for their napping pleasure....

And many of you asked for the pattern for this aqua doily. It is from Magic Crochet magazine, issue: April 2002. From the buzz on different web pages, I don't think this magazine is available any longer. I have picked up a few at rummage sales and thrift stores.

Lastly, my blogirl-friend, Robyn tagged me. She has a beautiful blog and she is sooooooo full of charm & sweetness! And because I was just recently tagged w/ the same 'game' here are my answers.

And I am tagging all of you who read this!

rainbow connection & randomness

A rainbow connection -- quilt colors connecting with crocheted rug blocks. When our tween picked out the cotton thread for her quilt, I didn't realize how close the colors really were with her quilt.

She laid them out on the floor and we mixed and matched and moved the blocks until she/we came up with this pattern. (Shhhhhhhhhh. Don't notify the crochet police -- yes, I really did machine stitch this together. With pets and children a-plenty in our house, I need to be realistic enough to know that this thing is going to have to stand up to repeated washings.)

See? Already -- scruffy shoes & silly, little kitties.
~~

Cara, from that beautiful blog -- Quilt Nook, tagged me.

Here are 7 random facts about me:
1. I am 2 years older than my husband.
2. When my husband & I are old enough to retire -- our view out our front window will be trees, barn and more trees.
3. I would love to dress just like they did in the 1940's.
4. I have always wanted a huge family -- just like The Waltons. Loud, loving meals all surrounding a huge kitchen table.
5. I love, love, LOVE to read.
6. Much to my husband's dismay -- I could easily become a crazy 'cat lady'. (ha. Sorry, dear! I can already hear your groan! *grin*)
7. Coffee is very much a part of my daily diet.
~~
And now, I will try and tag 7 of you that have never been tagged by me.........
Dearfii ......
Okay, so it's not 7.
And don't worry if you don't want to do this/or you have just recently done this on your blog. I just appreciate every one of you visiting and leaving such beautiful, encouraging words....you ALL are my inspiration!

kreativ bluebird

I so wish that we had bluebirds. I know of only a few people that do have them in their yard & they say that they are so beautiful . I stitched this bluebird as a tiny gift for my great-aunt whom I love dearly.
I am also dearly flattered to have received this award from Twyla and Lindsey -- you must visit their sumptuous blog! It is such a fun trip through nostalgia & beauty! Thank you Twyla & Lindsey!

And now I am trying to narrow down my choices to 5 bloggers to receive this award from me......

Tagged. Again.

I have been tagged again with a new game of tag. QuilterSal, my lovely blogirl-friend, tagged me.

5 Things Meme
~~~~
The Rules:
Each player answers the questions about themselves. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5-6 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog. Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer.
~~
1. What I was doing 10 years ago:
Standing in front of a classroom of giggly kindergarteners. And loving it.
~~
2. What 5 things are on on my to-do list for today (not in any particular order):
1. pick up teen from 1/2 day of high school
2. pick up tween from full day of middle school
3. pick up fabric for teen's soon-to-be-birthday-quilt
4. pick up reserved items from the library
5. pick up...okay....you get the idea
~~
3. Snacks I enjoy:
Fruit slices. And no, not the grow-on-a-tree kind (although I do LOVE fresh fruit) I-sad to say- have a sweet tooth the size of Texas and candy is my secret downfall.
~~
4. Things I would do if I was a billionaire:
Ah. At last. My dream of owning a yarn store would come true. Now, just how much yarn could a person buy with a billion dollars?.....
~~
5. Places I have lived:
Wisconsin. Minnesota. Colorado. Georgia.
~~
Now, please visit these wonderful blogs of women that I secretly rely on/love their kind words/aspire to be just like them/covet their fabric stash/and have found a virtual & actual friendship with all of them:
contemplating
As I stand here contemplating the next block for this quilt, I am trying to think of something that will show the beauty of our trees with maybe a cardinal perched on a branch singing his melodic song.
But I am also thinking about my beautiful blogirl-friends and deciding whom I should tag. Because yes, I have just been tagged and want to tag most of you that leave such daily inspiring comments. I so, so appreciate your regular visits and come to look forward to/and lean on your uplifting words.
So I will list you for now, but not link back to you. That way if you don't want to be tagged you can email me and let me know that you would rather not play this time. Here you are:
Beautiful Blogirl-friends that I would like to tag (unless I hear otherwise.....*grin*)
Caroline, Dandy, Jackie, Jacquie, Suzy, Adrienne, Marie, Cath, Meggie, Kris, Cara & Amy
(and if you need it---look directly to your left on the sidebar for my email address)
I'll be back soon-ish for the actual tag.
randomness
I've been tagged by Jackie from Canton Village Quilt Works to list 7 random facts about myself.
Here are the rules:
1. Once you are tagged, link back to the person who tagged you.
2. Post THE RULES on your blog.
3. Post 7 weird or random facts about yourself on your blog.
4. Tag 7 people and link to them.
5. Comment on their blog to let them know they have been tagged.
-----------
7 random facts about me
1. I love, love, love the look & feel of fabric. The colors & textures seem to come out & touch all of my senses.
2. Even weirder---I love, love, love to iron fabric.
3. I would much rather sew by hand than with machine.
4. I would love to open my own yarn store. My husband groans when he hears this because it's only about every day that I say this to him.
5. There is something about the hydrangea that completely mesmermizes me. So beautiful. The hues of purples, blues, white...each intricate petal forms such a gorgeous blossom.
6. Autumn is my favorite season.
7. My husband bought me a box of crayons for an anniversary present. Strangely I have received diamonds from him but crayons are still my favorite.
---
Now, for some of you, you'll have to pretend with me. I know how hard it was for me to list personal facts about myself because I am a very private person. But transport yourself back in time to when women sat around in their desirable quilting bees.
Still with me? Good. Because I know those women of long ago shared personal tidbits about themselves all in the name of warm friendship between quilters, neighbors & friends. And I secretly desire to sit down with all of you and actually share in laughter, gabbiness and the stitching of a hand-pieced quilt. Keeping that in mind, I am tagging--remember--think: virtual quilting bee!--to share 7 random facts about yourself:
4. QuilterSal's Pieceful Harbor
5. Spring Thinking
6. Suzy's Quilting Room
7. Tallgrass Prairie Studio
I know, I know most of you have been tagged 6 times since Tuesday, but just pretend that I am that old, old woman invited to the quilting bee that is sooooo hard of hearing & a tad bit forgetful and you just need to repeat everything many, many times just so that I can hear it and understand it.....or, just smile and nod and link back to the post that lists the first time you participated in this...*grin*
