a square a day in May

What a fabulous idea ---> a square a day in May!

Crochet one square every day during the month of May ... and oh, my! a beautiful throw or afghan in just 30 simple days.

Here are my squares so far:

May 1 -- Amethyst Square

May 2 -- Kata

May 3 -- Maggie's Square

May 4 -- Bloomin' Granny

May 5 -- Starfire

...and yes, I realize it is already May 7th and I am behind.

But like Melissa from Hooked on Handmade explains ---> there is no pressure, just some beautiful results that work up quickly.

All of the yarn I am using is I Love This Yarn --- and yes! that yummy Red Heart Monet yarn that I used in my last project

A slight obsessed with that gorgeous color combination, I know.

And on a side note:

Seriously?

This is a 6th grade boy's idea of cutting himself a brownie..........

  1. OMG, I am dying at that last photo! That's way too funny and oh so typical! I'm sitting here in a room by myself, still laughing aloud as I write this. And those squares! Oh goodness..so scrumptious looking! I love each and every...and yes, you are behind...but it's only numbers and self inflicted deadlines, eh? Isn't that what constitutes our anxieties much of the time? Self inflicted deadlines. I bet that little cutie that cut the brownies doesn't have any of our worries about timeframes! I just love your work...I'm drooling. x&o, Annette

  4. beautiful squares! and i am much older than the boy cutting himself a brownie from the centre, but i may do the same thing. I love the middle of everything, not the edge. i remember in grade 6 we used to get square pizzas for pizza day, and some kids would say they were allergic to crust in order to get the middle of the pizza. we believed them, and i still laugh about it to this day that they had the rest of us fooled! :P

  5. Wow! I love your squares, Dawn! I'd love to do a square a day, too, but don't think I will have the discipline to do them!

  7. Now how many of us could cut a perfect square and lift it out so neatly?! Does ha worry about germs from the edge?!!!
Your wool colours are superb. I love the idea of a square a day. Does that include sewing the ends away each day? Cherrie

  10. How adorable! Ah, but I do that too... Brownies from the center are so soft and fresh-feeling! A fluffy chocolate dream!

  14. that brownie looks like it was done at my house...but not by the kids but by hubby! so glad someone else's family does that too:) And I so wish I weren't single needle challenged...I'd love to do a square a day! But I have a knit tank top that needs a crochet edging on it....and I'm sure that will take me a few months....happy belated mother's day!

  19. LAUGHING at the brownie selection!!! I once lived with a 6th grade boy for a whole year (now he has moved on to 7th) and all I can do is look at your picture and say, "Yep." :-)

I love the idea of a square a day too, and your squares are so large and lovely! You must be a fast crocheter. And I do love that RHSS in Monet - I have some of that, and could never quite figure out how to use it (in a project). But the way you've incorporated it into your colors, it makes such a nice accent, doesn't stand out screaming "HERE IS VARIEGATED YARN." You've really done a marvelous job with placement.

Can't wait to see the rest of your squares throughout this month.
