If you know me, you know that I would go to the moon & back just to knit myself a pair of socks. I have seen so many beautiful socks on other blogs and just {sob} because I seem to be completely incapable of knitting. Period.
.
Oh, believe me. I have checked out every how-to-knit book, wrestled with those dratted needles and yarn, watched every how-to-knit youtube video & prayed for some sort of knitting savvy.
.
Nope.
.
Until I paged through my copy of CROCHET today (Sept/Oct 08) and lookee, lookee, there is a pattern for socks. Not knitted mind you, but lovely crochet -- which I know how to do!
And to my complete and utter amazement, I see an actual, wearable sock forming from my hook.
.
Even my girls, who sometimes look at my creations as if they are a bit wonky, have put in an order for their very own crochet socks.
.
Yippee! Socks!

And. A finish.

Oh, My, Dawn! Those are wonderful. I only knit but those crochet socks are going to be great! Good for you!!!

Your socks are beautiful! I love that magazine. They do have wonderful patterns. I would like to encourage you not to give up knitting and the best advice I can give for someone struggling with knitting is 'Use circular needles!' They are not nearly as awkward as the straight ones and I've seen people be able to knit with those that couldn't with the straight. Your aunt's lapghan has turned out so lovely. Twyla
ReplyDeleteOlá Dawn!

Já fui ver os seus trabalhos do flickr e adorei! Muita cor e alegria.

You've been busy. I love the socks, too. They look so cozy...what fun colors. It is no wonder why the girls want a pair. LOVE THEM. Great finish, too, btw, your auntie will be impressed.
ReplyDeleteI've never had any knit socks or crocheted ones either come to think of it but I do love real wool socks with a passion. :) I bet those cotton ones will be perfect for wearing around the house this summer! blessings, marlene
ReplyDeleteWow, great find. Crochet is easier than knitting, & seems to grow faster. Good for you.
ReplyDeleteI love your lap-ghan for your Aunt, who could not love that!

ReplyDeleteI learnt last winter to make my firts knitting socks and, believe me, it was hard for me too! But I was lucky to find in a yarn-shop a brochure where was published a good tutorial. You find it in my pattern section, in the right column of my blog. Of course is in italian, but if you need an help for a translation I'm here!!!
